Working at Brandwave, we get the opportunity to test out new and existing products from our raft of wonderful clients.
This time round, Merrell kindly sent us some Leather Moab Speed 2’s to tryout in the outdoor playground that is ‘The South Downs’. Our Creative Director, Al Lecomte volunteered and had this to say…
Great for comfort, but better in drier conditions
I took the Merrell Moab Speed 2 Leather Waterproof shoes for a test on a hike through Kingley Vale in the South Downs. The weather was surprisingly warm and sunny, but the ground? A total mudfest.
First impressions—super comfortable straight out of the box, but they do run between sizes. I had to add an insole for a better fit. They handled the mixed terrain well, but I could tell they’d be more at home on drier trails. While they kept my feet dry, the grip wasn’t quite as confident in deep mud.
That said, for short to medium hikes in less swampy conditions, these are a solid choice. The leather looks great, they feel durable, and they’re waterproof enough for wet grass and light rain. Would definitely recommend to anyone after a comfy, waterproof leather hiking shoe—just maybe not for the boggiest of adventures!
