A few sore heads…but no sore losers. A night at the CIM Marketing Excellence awards.

Finally recovered after our night out at the CIM Marketing Excellence awards, Vicky Stickland, Brandwave’s Commercial Director reflects on whether the biggest night in the marketing industry is all it’s cracked up to be…

A week has now passed since we all woke up with slightly sore heads after the CIM Marketing Excellence awards at Grosvenor House last week. It’s taken us this long to get over the fact that we didn’t win – only kidding, but it has taken us this long to get the wine out of our systems. We were nominated for the Beach Safety campaign that we created for the RNLI last year, Don’t Forget to Pack the Lifeguard. All being die-hard beach-lovers it was a genuine honour for us to be selected to work on this campaign with the RNLI and, therefore to be nominated for an award for the campaign we created was really the icing on the cake. Especially considering the 10 other other prestigious and high-profile campaigns in the not-for-profit sector that we were up against.

So unfortunately we didn’t win, but was it all worth it?
Most definitely. It’s not everyday members of the team get to dress up in their fancy attire and pat themselves on the back for creating a truly memorable, and influential marketing campaign. It was also a fantastic opportunity to spend some quality time with our client, the RNLI, and thank them for all the hard work they too put into the campaign. The early Sunday mornings for the video and photoshoot, and the speedy response to the countless emails from Sean, our operations manager (it means a lot to us!) After all, any creative campaign we create for our clients is truly a collaborative effort.

It also meant that we got to meet some of the other lovely people involved in this campaign who would only ever been a faceless email to us, or perhaps a LinkedIn profile pic at best. Caroline and Charlotte from OMD, and of course Alexa from the Met office, it was a pleasure to meet you all and dance the night away with you.

A great evening was had by all and they do say that you only ever truly get to know your clients when you spend time with them outside of a work environment. So perhaps it’s time to start planning that elusive Brandwave Summer BBQ…
